News From the Mercantile

Well, not much news at the old Mercantile. With this slow economy it is very hard not to be discouraged about low sales, but now is the time to regroup and get ready for better times.

Everyday I read something about people losing their jobs or being layed off, but then I hear about someone doing something to really help and it does my heart good. The best story I have heard about lately was Denny's; once a month nation wide, they have offered a FREE Grand Slam Breakfast to people who were out of work! Denny's was picking up the tab for those diners. The company CEO said it was their way of stimulating the economy, they wanted those people who got a free breakfast this month to bring in someone who needed a free breakfast next month and Denny's would pay for that persons breakfast too. The CEO said he hoped the fist guy had a job by then and could pay for his own breakfast and then would remember Denny's and come back more often. I thought this was a wonderful idea!

Many of the message boards I belong to have posts about members facing hard times and not knowing what to do to keep their craft business going.
