Things Are A Changin!

A few weeks ago my husband and I met my sister and her family in Canton, Texas for First Monday Trade Days. Now if you have never been to Canton for Trade Days you are in for an experience. It is a huge park full of arts and crafts, antiques, oddities and garage sale junk. It is a plethora of stuff and ideas and as a Folk Artist it had my imagination on overload. Trade Days is a true Mercanile.

Other than the obvious things I found at First Monday Trade Days, I discovered I wanted this blog to have the same wonderful feel of the unexpected! So to make this happen I have decided to change things up a bit. Our first change will be posting once a week, on or around Monday. That is the beauty of Trade days, it happens on the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday before the first Monday of each month. Now I know that sounds confusing because that means it isn't on the same date each month, but that adds to the charm. Also, some of the vendors don't come for all days so it changes things even more. The advertising says the vendors are open from 8am until dusk, but each vendor pretty much sets their own hours, and as my Grandmother used to say "those people are as independent as a hog on ice", so you catch as catch can when you visit. I am afraid I like that "Take It Or Leave It" attitude, so I will be posting on or around these set times.

Because there are usually 4 weeks to each month I will be dividing up the post into four different segments. The first Monday will be "News From The Mercantile"; things that are happening at Shoofly Pie Mercantile, like sales and specials. The second Monday will be "The WAHM Home Companion"; time saving and useful household tips. Third Monday will be "Trade Days"; our featured site and merchandise that they offer. Then on fourth Monday we will have "The Homemakers Handbook"; each month will offer a new and sometimes "classic" family recipe, and who know on the odd fifth Monday I may even offer a craft tip or two!

I hope you enjoy the new layout of the Mercantile News and find these posts useful, enjoyable and a bit unexpected, just like the Canton First Monday Trade Days..
